Lighter Fare
I'm a great compartmentalizer, so for the most part life is flowing normally here. My mom arrives tomorrow and it's craigs day off so we are loafing, but with spurts of intermittent house cleaning.
Hey, it works for me!
In lieu of witty conversation, I am posting all of the questions and answers that were asked for three questions.....
From Kim (nutt’nhoney)
1. What is your most favorite book from childhood? My favorite book from childhood (kids’ picture book) is Never Tease a Weasel--GREAT book. My other favorite older books are Nancy Drew. I have every single one of the hardback yellow spines. I LOVED her!
2. How long ago did you last clean under your refrigerator? I clean my fridge weekly--every Monday. So, last Monday. As far as i know there is simply a bottomless pit under the fridge and i don't go looking under there.
3. What was the last thing you read before getting on the computer? Before getting on the computer--ummmm The Time Travelers Wife, a great book I am reading
From Another Kim (wilson’sworld)
1. Who was your favorite teacher in school?
My favorite teacher in Elementary was Mrs. Crowder 4th grade
Middle School: Mrs. Parkinson--7th grade science
High School: Ronnie Rummage Jr. Advanced English and AP English senior year
College--hmmm Dr. Garner --I took COUNTLESS literature classes from her. She taught me to love southern fiction as a genre.
And Dr. Lomax. I was in the last class he taught before he died of cancer. Young Adult literature, a truly great class.
2. If you had to pick an animal to describe yourself. What would it be?
If i were any animal it would be a phoenix. Real animal--a dolphin
3. If your fairy god mother came to see you and gave you 3 wishes. What would they be? The first 3 things that pop into your head please!
Three wishes.
1-a new house
2-a cure for cancer
3- 40 less pounds!
From Naomi:
1. What do you say when you stub your toe? When i remember to edit it's “FRICKIN' FRACKIN” (or Flippin’ Flappin!) when i don't it's just ugly!
2. What do you sing in the shower? I don't sing in the shower. But i sing almost every place else and usually its praise music or silly songs i am making up.
3. What's one of your favorite childhood memories? My favorite childhood memory is every Christmas with my Dad and every summer at the lake
From Melissa:
1. What's your favorite junk food? I am a TOTAL junk food junky. I really love salty chips and cheese dip, but I am a sucker for all things chocolate as well, especially ice cream. I think ice cream is the only thing I could totally not give up!
2. Which is your favorite movie of all time? Easy--To Kill a Mockingbird. It's a great movie, but it also has great emotional significance for me. Second--On Golden Pond. Norman would have been my dad if he lived to be 80.
3. What attracted you to your husband first? He made me laugh. And I do mean laugh and laugh and laugh for hours on end. I was actually dating someone else when we met but he would call and we would laugh on the phone for hours or hang out and just laugh. Also he is VERY intelligent.
And when i finely really looked at him as more then a friend, he's just plain sexy. Those eyes! YOWZA. And this is not a good conversation to be having when he is and has been out of town for 8 days!
From Heather:
1. Have you started scrapping those pictures yet? No I have not. Let's not go there 'kay? ;P~~~~
2. Does your husband need a summer youth intern? Or even a camp/guest speaker? No and no--not since the new youth person was hired, and my husband IS the speaker at the camps he is attending. Sorry, we both married men gifted in the same area.
3. Do you still wear my socks? No--but i am not wearing any socks at all lately. It's too hot. Right now I am in my bathing suit since I came from the sun for a brief rest from heat. Soon I will be back out to bake!
From Pioneer Melissa:
1.Can you tell me about seven people who have seriously influenced your life i.e. inspired change or new choices (can be famous or not, and please say how/why)? I think I am going to save this one up for a post--but I promise it will be my NEXT post, fair?
2. What would you do with $5 million dollars? With $5 million-- Pay off existing short fall on the church expansion project. Buy a new house (our housing situation is BAD). Set up and education fund for my kids. Buy a place for the in-laws (FYI--my family is pretty financially set which is why they are not mentioned). Some portion of it would go to missions, but I would have to research where. Savings. In ground pool. Boat??
3. If you could live in any era, which one would you choose and why (and where)? Easy Easy Easy--if i could live in ANY era it would be Little House on the Prairie days. I'm abnormally obsessed with that time period and lifestyle--what do you think attracted me to your site--PIONEER Melissa!
From Jamie:
1) Worst movie ever? Why? Worst movie ever--well, i really watch very few, but hands down it had to be Eyes Wide shut. Don't ask me why we saw it but WOW! What a waste of film!
2) What is something you collect and why? I guess if I collect anything it would be pink ribbon items. I have a number of pins and my mom buys me the Longaberger Breast Cancer basket every year. I take lots of Photos (not sure if that counts) Books? We have well over 500, do they count??
3) How does the knowledge that you have access to God affect your daily life? I guess i could get into a big theological discussion here, but i don't think there is any area of my life it doesn't affect. Now with that said, I often lean on my own strength instead of tapping into God's power, until i really think about what I am doing, but the presence of God literally shades every word, action and nuance in my home.
From Nattie:
1. Do you own a battery powered rubber duck? There are many things in my home that are battery powered--flashlight, princess castle, digi-cam, but no, no ducks. Why would a rubber bath toy need batteries anyway?? (note shining halo)
2. Are you ever going to send me those books? AW CRUD! The books! What am i supposed to send you again?? How many times have i told you that you must NAG ME! I have the WORST chemo brain-please NAG ME! NAG NAG NAG!
3. Are you going to dye your hair pink again? If it meant more people would ask me about why it was pink, or more people would hear the message about my age, then you bet I would dye it again. I am not doing it this year because there is not actually an RFTC when we get together. But at next year's get together, don't rule it out. Besides the Statement i was making, it was truly a very fun thing to do. I wouldn't want it that way all the time, but it was great for a week.
From Duff:
1) If you could be anything else in the world (job, career, gender, whatever), what would it be? Anything else in the world, huh? Traveling photographer, oceanic biologist, or gardener/greenhouse owner. Those are all careers of course. As far as changing anything else, can't think of a thing. And who says any of those things are out of the question in the future?
2) Tom or Jerry? Niether--Bugs Bunny, BABY
3) What's the one thing you really want to accomplish before you die? Wow, Duffy, that's a tough one. Having Cancer at 22 really changed my perspective on a lot of things. I guess what I really want/ need to experience before I die is to see my mom and brothers led to the Lord whether by me, or someone else. Beyond that, life is too uncertain for more, I try to live it as it comes.
From Gene:
1. Which do you prefer at the amusement park: the carousel or the roller coaster? ROLLER COASTER! The carousel is for grannies!
2. Do you think suffering is a necessary part of everyone's life? In other words, do you feel your own experience has made you a 'better' person? This is going to addressed in a longer blog
3. Do you believe in God or a higher being? And this one as well.
From Linda:
1. How long did it take to get naked after hubby returned home (had to let the side you show in AGK's comments shine on here). Oh Linda—stick around! You’ll see some of that naughty wife sneaks out occasionally. And, about 30 minutes. He got in about 12:30. Got his bags in, unpacked a bit, and there you have it.
2. Last book read? The Glorious Appearing. Yeah, I kind of thought it was cash cow, and they really dragged it out for a bit, but this last one WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! It totally blew me away, and I know it’s simply man’s rendition of what will be, but if that’s just from MAN how much greater can what God has in store for us be!?!?!??!??
3. Dream vacation - would it be a warm or cold destination? Cold—I get all the warm I want here. Maybe an Alaskan Cruise? A chalet in the Swiss Alps? Cabin in the mountains complete with Jacuzzi? A combo of all the above??
From Angie:
1. If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be? I’m not going to answer the Obvious Answer (Jesus). Someone besides Jesus, maybe Madeline L’engle, Robert Frost, King David, Ruth, CS Lewis….do I have to pick just one??
2. What do you do all day? (Just curious- I'm having a bit of a problem with boredom, so I want to know what everyone else does. ;-)) Well, breakfast, chores, home schooling take up most of our time until lunch. There is time to play outside for the girls everyday (sometimes I do housework at this time, sometimes I go outside too), two or three days a week we go somewhere (usually one of these days is errands), Church and preparation for church take up a lot of Wednesday (Lindsay has to be there at 5 for kids choir), Thursday morning we have Bible study (with child care), and it’s Craig’s day off so we do lots of family things, Sunday we have church all morning (8-12:30) and then an afternoon home Bible study. We actually feel pretty busy a lot of the time. But kind of a slow paced busy, if you know what I mean.
3. What's your favorite book of the bible? Why? John. It’s gorgeous, replete with unforgettable imagery, fantastic word weaving and hope from first to last words.
From Sparrow:
1. Say you were to write and publish a book. What would the title be and its content consist of? I actually have an idea for one. It would be about my cancer experience and the Title is Wrestling with Angels (from the story of Jacob in the Bible where he refused to let go until the Lord blessed him.)
2. If you could invent a flavor of ice cream, what would it be? You simply can’t so better than chocolate, unless it would be chocolate you could taste all day….
3. If you could travel back to any time era, besides Jesus Himself, whom would you want to see and fellowship with in person and what would you hope to learn? See Angie's Question #1 for a rather wimpy list, and as to why, well for the writers, they all have some style or use of their carft that inspires me, not to mention that they used it in connection with their faith. For the biblical characters, they are someone I identify with for some reason or another, and I would be looking for insight, I think.

Just wondered if you would share a photo of your pink ribbon tattoo with me, a fellow breast cancer survivor? twotatsTami survivor of camp Nukemboobie

Glad to see you're back to blogging, hope you enjoyed hubby's return home! I'm still waiting for your insight on the answers to my questions, but I appreciate that your taking the time to give it a nice, thought-out response. It was interesting that your favorite animal was a phoenix--the original name of my weblog was 'phoenix rising'. I guess all survivors share a love for the mythical phoenix rising out of the ashes, eh?
